Water Violet
Self-contained and capable, but keeping a distance that can read as aloof
What it feels like
You are fine on your own, genuinely. You handle your own problems, you do not make a fuss, and you would rather not be drawn into other people's dramas. That capability is real and people rely on it. The difficulty is that the distance has become a habit. You do not ask for help even when you could use it, you keep your troubles to yourself as a matter of course, and colleagues have decided you are a bit unapproachable without ever knowing why. At some point self-sufficiency stopped being a choice and turned into the only way you know.
Signs you might need it
- You prefer to deal with your own problems alone
- You rarely ask for help, even when you need it
- People describe you as reserved, proud or hard to read
- You dislike fuss and avoid emotional conversations
- You are calm in a crisis and others come to you
- You are genuinely comfortable in your own company
What it helps with
The self-containment stays, because it is a strength, and the wall comes down a little. People describe it as still being independent but no longer separate, able to let others in without feeling crowded.
Not to be confused with
Agrimony, which looks sociable but is hiding real distress. Water Violet is not hiding anything, it simply does not share. Impatiens is also often alone, but out of impatience rather than preference.
For those who in health or illness like to be alone. Very quiet people, who move about without noise, speak little, and then gently. Very independent, capable and self-reliant. Almost free of the opinions of others.
The plant
A rare water plant of clean ponds and slow ditches, most of it hidden below the surface. It sends up a bare stem of pale lilac flowers that stand clear of the water with nothing else touching them, which is where the picture of the remedy comes from.
How to take it
The usual way is two drops from the stock bottle into a small glass of water, sipped through the day. If you are mixing several remedies, put two drops of each into a 30ml bottle of spring water and take four drops from that, four times a day.
There is no need to time it around meals, and you can take it as often as you like. Most people give it two weeks before deciding whether it is doing anything. The full guide to taking them covers mixing bottles, timing and the alcohol question.

Common questions
These are about Water Violet. The questions about the remedies in general, alcohol, children, timing, live in the FAQ.
Is Water Violet for introverts?
Not exactly. Plenty of introverts are perfectly connected to the people around them. Water Violet describes a particular reserve that has hardened into distance, where you would not ask for help even if you wanted it.
What is the difference between Water Violet and Agrimony?
What is on the surface. Water Violet is quiet and genuinely content alone. Agrimony is often the life of the party while carrying something painful underneath. They look like opposites and both end up isolated.
Is it a bad thing to be independent?
Not at all, and the remedy is not aimed at that. The self-reliance is the good quality here. It is only worth looking at when the distance stops being a choice and starts being the only setting you have.
Not sure Water Violet is the one?
Choosing works by recognizing yourself in a description, so if this one only half fits, it is worth seeing what else comes up. The quiz narrows all 38 in about a minute, and the loneliness group holds the nearest neighbors.
