How long do Bach flower remedies take to work?

Give a remedy two weeks before you form a view. Some people report a shift within days, others notice it only when they realize they have stopped reaching for the bottle, and some notice nothing at all. The traditional advice is that frequency matters more than quantity, which is why the method is four small doses spread through the day rather than one big one.

How many remedies can I mix at once?

Up to six or seven in one mixing bottle, by tradition. Fewer, chosen well, works better than the full allowance: a mix is a portrait of how you feel, and portraits blur when you keep adding to them. Two or three is the sweet spot for most people, and the quiz will pick them out in about a minute.

Can you take too much?

No known way. There is no dose to get right, no interaction to schedule around, and nothing that builds up. The practical limit is that taking more at once does nothing extra, so a hard day is better met by taking it more often.

Is there alcohol in them?

The classic stock bottles are preserved in brandy, and a dose from a mixing bottle carries a trace so small it is a rounding error. If you want none at all, glycerin based droppers, pastilles and gummies exist, and the pet versions are alcohol free as standard.

Can children take them?

The tradition has always included children, usually as drops in a drink or in the bath, where the brandy trace becomes smaller still. The descriptions work for children too, sometimes better than for adults, since a child's mood tends to be nearer the surface. Choose the remedy the same way, by matching what you can see.

What about pregnancy and breastfeeding?

The remedies are famously gentle and the tradition has used them at every stage of life. A dose carries a tiny trace of brandy, and glycerin based versions skip even that. Are Bach remedies homeopathy?

Cousins, not twins. Bach trained at the London Homoeopathic Hospital and kept Hahnemann's rule of treating the person rather than the disease, and in the US the remedies are sold under homeopathic labeling. How are the remedies made?

One of two ways, both simple enough for a farmhouse kitchen. Twenty are made by floating flowers on spring water in morning sunlight, and eighteen by boiling flowering twigs for half an hour. What is Rescue Remedy?

The most famous brand name for the crisis formula, the one five remedy combination Dr Bach made himself. Every maker sells a version of it under its own name. Four drops as often as the moment asks, and it is the bottle that lives in bags and glove boxes.

Which remedy is best for anxiety?

It depends on the shape of it. Fear you can name points to Mimulus, dread with no name points to Aspen, a looping head points to White Chestnut, and pressure that feels close to snapping points to Cherry Plum. The fear group holds the full set side by side.

Which remedy is best for sleep?

Do they work for animals?

Do the bottles expire?

Stock bottles keep for years, thanks to the brandy. A mixing bottle of spring water is the perishable one: about three weeks unpreserved, longer in the fridge or with a teaspoon of brandy added. If a mixing bottle smells or looks off, tip it out and mix a fresh one.

What if I pick the wrong remedy?

Nothing happens, which is one of the kindest features of the system. A remedy that does not match simply has nothing to say to you. Read again, pick again, and if two keep blurring together, the comparisons settle exactly that problem one pair at a time.
